GamesAsylum: Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Review

GamesAsylum: "As much as we admired Disney for taking on the juggernaut that is Activisions money making Skylanders franchise, the original Disney Infinity left a lot to be desired. A surprisingly high amount of additional figures could only be used in the Minecraft-inspired Toy Box mode, and despite the Infinity in the games title characters couldnt cross worlds. Not only did this mean Jack Sparrow roaming the halls of Monsters University was out of the question, but it also meant that players (parents?) had to cough up for at least one extra figurine to play adventure mode with two players"

IGN: "The Verdict: Uneven and undercooked, Disney Infinity 2.0 isnt the major upgrade I expected. It lacks the playful fun and diversity that made Infinity 1.0 so great last year. A few things are better characters, old and new, feel more distinct and combat has been improved, and The Toy Box has made creation viting and less overwhelming. Disney Infinity 2.0 feels very much like a franchise thats still finding its way, but I hope it doesnt forget that what made it fun wasnt the cool characters it had at its disposal but the way in which it played with them."

GI: "The end result is a tale of two games: One that crushes the dreams of people hoping to wear spandex or a cape, and another that gives artists and creators more power. Stay away if your hopes lie with finally playing a great Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy game. Come play if your ambitions lie mostly with building worlds. Even then, though, heed this warning: You need to play three bad superhero games extensively to round out your building options. Heres hoping the inevitable Star Wars sequel fares better than Marvel's heroes did."

GameSpot: "The Toy Box is mind-boggingly complex and option-stuffed as never before, but it's also now much easier to create your own worlds and adventures, with the game featuring assist options that range from "give me a hand on this" all the way to "build the whole thing for me." The game as a whole still has its share of problems--the main adventure that comes with it is pedestrian, and there are some technical issues that result in sometimes poor frame rates and broken quests--but Infinity's best part has been made even better."

Adam Cook: "Without question, the Toy Box is where Infinity still shines. A sandbox that truly lets your imagination run wild, only now you can share or download creations via the internet. But the play sets are a vast improvement over the first game and a lot of fun in their own right, while the technical performance is far better, too. Being able to bring your existing Infinity toys into 2.0 is a nice touch, but something youd expect."
